A Florida-based gastroenterologist has shared his seven “favorite” foods for supporting and strengthening liver function. These nutrient-rich picks are easy to incorporate into any diet for a natural health boost.
One of the expert’s favorites is beetroot. He notes it’s “loaded with nitrates and betaine.” Nitrates support blood flow, while betaine is a key nutrient that helps the liver process and export fat from its cells.
Another favorite is cranberries. The specialist emphasizes the gut-liver axis, explaining that the polyphenols in cranberries act as prebiotics for gut bacteria, and “a healthier gut is linked to a healthier liver.”
The doctor also favors smart pairings. Watermelon with lime is recommended for its citrulline and vitamin C, which boost blood flow. Apples with cinnamon are praised for their fiber and compounds that support insulin sensitivity.
Pomegranates (for inflammation), raspberries (for blood sugar), and strawberries with dark chocolate (70%+) complete the list. This last combo is noted for its flavanol content, which improves blood vessel function and cardiometabolic health.
